How to Root and add CWM to your Motorola Droid Bionic

As the practice of rooting Android phones becomes more prevalent, so does the number of rooting tools become more widely available in order to root your Motorola DROID Bionic. One of those sought-after tools is Pete’s Motorola Root Tool.
The said developer made a rooting script that can easily root your DROID Bionic. This script is specially designed to work on DROID Bionic handsets with firmware versions earlier than 5.5.893. This rooting method is also said to work on the following devices:

• Motorola DROID
• Motorola DROID 2 Global
• Motorola DROID 3
• Motorola Cliq
• Motorola Cliq 2
• Motorola DROID Pro
• Motorola DROID X
• Motorola DROID X2

Those who own a Motorola DROID Bionic running firmware higher than 5.5.893, however, can use an alternate rooting method.
In this article, you will find two methods for rooting your Motorola Droid Bionic, depending on what firmware version is running on it.

Requirements

• A computer running Windows
• Download one of the following, depending on firmware version:
  • For firmware versions earlier than 5.5.893 – Get Pete’s Motorola Root Tool:
    • For Windows Vista, 7, or Server 2008 (PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.07.zip, 331 KB) — If you’re on Windows XP, try this package first.  Otherwise, download the one below.
    • For Windows XP, 2003 Server (DROID 3 easy root script v7.zip, 1.34 MB)
  • For firmware versions 5.5.893 and higher — Download the root package here (DROIDBionicRootNew.zip, 4.75 MB)
• For Windows users, make sure you have the appropriate drivers installed on your computer. You can get the drivers here or here.
• Create a backup of your personal phone data.
• Enable USB debugging by going to Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
• Maintain battery power of 50% or more to keep your device running throughout the entire procedure.
• System tools such as firewall programs and anti-virus software may affect the outcome of the rooting process. It would be wise to disable such software prior to rooting your phone.

For Firmware Version Earlier Than 5.5.893

1. Download Pete’s Motorola Root Tool from the link provided above.
2. Extract the contents of the Root Tool into a folder on your computer.
3. Connect your mobile phone to the computer using USB cable.
4. Set your Motorola DROID Bionic to “Charge Only.”
5. Go to the extracted folder and double-click Pete’s Motorola Root Tool executable file.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions. When you are ready, click the “Root My Phone” button to begin the rooting process. You can verify whether rooting succeeded by updating the Superuser app.  If Superuser pops up a request, then that means rooting succeeded.
   

For Firmware Version 5.5.893 or Higher

1. Connect your Motorola DROID Bionic to the computer via USB cable.
2. Set your mobile device  as “Charge Only.”
3. Download the DROIDBionicRootNew.zip file from the link provided above.
4. Extract its contents into a folder on your computer. The folder should contain a folder named “files” and a runme.bat file
5. Double-click the runme.bat file to start the rooting process.
6. After a couple of reboots, your Motorola DROID Bionic will be rooted. You can verify whether rooting succeeded by updating the Superuser app.  If Superuser pops up a request, then that means rooting succeeded.
