How to Root Samsung Galaxy S Running XWJW1 Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware

The Samsung Galaxy S is a remarkable phone and is considered to be the device that catapulted Samsung’s success prior to the release of its famed Galaxy S2.  Featuring an amazing 4.0 inch Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy S proved to be a hit among many consumers in its category.
The Galaxy S has already experienced many changes in the course of official firmware updates and old rooting methods will certainly not work. For those of you who have already upgraded the device to XWJW1 Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware, then you’re in luck as we’ve got the inside scoop on how you can root your device running the said firmware.

Important Reminder

This rooting method will only work for Galaxy S GT-I9000 users who have XWJW1 Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware installed on their device.

Instructions

1. Download the rooting package named ROOT_GTI9000_I9000XWJW1.rar to your computer.
2. Extract the contents of the RAR file that you have downloaded using any RAR extraction software (e.g., WinRAR). You should have 8 files namely:
   • adb.exe
   • AdbWinApi.dll
   • AdbWinUsbApi.dll
   • I9003_Odin3 v1.82.exe
   • RUNME.BAT
   • su
   • Superuser.apk
   • zImage.tar
3. Launch the Odin application on your computer by double-clicking the “I9003_Odin3v1.82 exe” file.
4. Turn off your device and enter download mode. You can enter download mode by simultaneously pressing and holding down the Volume Down key and Home button, and then pressing the Power button.
5. Connect your device to your computer via USB cable.
6. As soon as your device is connected to your PC, Odin’s ID:COM port should turn yellow indicating that the drivers of your phone are successfully installed. If it doesn’t, we recommend that you install the Samsung USB Drivers or KIES software to manually install your phone’s drivers.
7. Click the PDA button and browse for the “zImage.tar” file.
8. Once the file is matched, hit the Start button to begin the rooting process.
9. As soon as the installation process is done, your device will automatically reboot itself.
10. Disconnect your device from your PC after it has rebooted.
11. Enable USB Debugging Mode in your phone by heading to “Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.” Make sure that there’s a check mark beside the option.
12. Once again, connect your device to your computer via USB cable.
13. Launch the application called “RUNME.BAT” from the files that you have downloaded earlier. This should open a command window; follow the on-screen instructions to begin the installation process. The command window should disappear after the installation is complete.
14. Copy the Superuser.apk file to your phone’s SD card and install the file by opening it in your phone.
15. Turn off your phone and enter into Recovery mode. You can enter Recovery mode by simultaneously pressing and holding down the Volume Down key, Home button and then pressing the Power button.
16. Once inside Recovery mode, select “Wipe data/ factory reset” and select “Wipe Cache partition.”
17. Reboot your device by selecting “Reboot system now” from the options in Recovery Mode.
18. Install ROM Manager from the Android Market place. Open the application and select the option “install the ClockworkMod Recovery” to install ClockworkMod Recovery unto your device.

You have successfully rooted and installed ClockworkMod Recovery on your Samsung Galaxy S. Enjoy the benefits of having a rooted device.

The latest version of the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 may have come out with the latest Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone, but it’s possible to get it for your LG Optimus 3D P920 through rooting your phone. A word of warning however: rooting your device voids the warranty and the only way to restore the warranty is by installing the original stock firmware.

Before proceeding to root the LG Optimus 3D phone, there are a few things that need to be done:

Pre-Requisites

1. LG Optimus 3D with version v20x firmware
2. Computer running on Windows and LG ADB drivers installed
3. USB cable
4. The battery power of the Smartphone must be 60% at least, so that it keeps the device active all through procedure.
5. You must keep backups of all data separately before rooting your device.
6. You must tap on the Menu-> Settings->Application->Development->USB debugging. Make sure that USB debugging is checked.

Before You Start

• Ensure that the phone is left with a charge of at least 70% so that it doesn’t get turned off during the rooting process.
• Back up all the data on your phone so that it can be restored safely if any data on the phone is lost. Here are suggested tips for doing that:
• Text Messages – Use the SMS Backup and Restore app
• Phone Contacts – Sync with Gmail application
• Call Log – Use the Call Logs Backup and Restore app
• Pictures, music, videos, files, etc. – Copy to the internal/external SD card
• Internet > MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
• Make sure to quit programs such as firewalls, antivirus, and tools like Samsung KIES , because these generally tend to interrupt the process of the firmware update.
• Additionally, USB debugging must be enabled on your phone through the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”.

Once all of that is done, we can now proceed to root your LG Optimus 3D phone:

Steps to Root the LG Optimus 3D

Step 1: Download Dan Rosenberg’s root exploit ZIP file on your computer.
Step 2: Now extract the ZIP file to a folder using any suitable zip extractor software.
Step 3: Via USB cable connect your phone to your computer.
Step 4: Search for ‘run.bat’ file in the extracted ZIP file.
Step 5: Now double-click the ‘run.bat’.
Step 6: A command prompt window will open and text is appeared on the screen.

HTC Wildfire S is all so known as HTC PG76110 which runs on Android 2.3.5 and having 600 MHz ARM 11 processor and chipset of Qulacomm MSM7227. All the users of HTC Wildfire S can now root their phone. To root the device you need to custom recovery installed in the device.

Pre-Requisites

• Unlocked bootloader of HTC Wildfire S
• Custom recovery image

1. ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.6 (recommended)
2. Custom recovery image

• The battery power of the Smartphone must be 80% at least, so that it keeps the device active all through procedure.
• You must keep backups of all data separately before rooting your device.
• Disable the firewall and anti-virus software to avoid interruption.
• Set microSD card to FAT32 file system.

How to flash custom recovery and root your HTC Wildfire S

Step 1: Download the above links on your computer and extract the files.
Step 2: Via USB cable connect your device to your computer and transfer the PG76IMG.zip file to the phone’s SD card.
Step 3: After that detach your Smartphone from the computer and disable the Fastboot on your phone by going to Settings then power.
Step 4: Now switch off the device and reboot it to HBOOT mode by both the Volume Down and Power buttons until the screen appears.
Step 5: Wait for few seconds to detect the recovery image by phone and then as you see the message to start update, use the volume up key to initiate update.
Step 6: Press the Power button to reboot the phone after the installation is complete.
Step 7: Use the USB cable to connect your device after it gets fully booted.
Step 8: From the phone’s SD card delete PG76IMG.zip file and copy the root.zip file.
Step 9: Again unplug the phone and turn off the device.
Step 10: Hold the Volume Down Key and Power buttons until you see HBOOT screen on phone. You must use the Volume keys for navigation and to select use Power button.
Step 11:  In the recovery menu select install zip from sd card then select choose zip from sd card and finally select root.zip file.
Step 12: Confirm by selecting Yes and then the rooting procedure will start by script.
Step 13: When all get finished the go back to the main menu and then select power off.
Step 14: Power on the phone and enjoy the rooted HTC Wildfire S. Superuser, BusyBox, and su binary will also be installed along with it.

Your HTC Wildfire S is successfully rooted and installed with custom recovery. If you counter any error during Superuser app then clear all the data from it and afterwards run the application from the app drawer. It is advised to update su binary to prevent force close error in the app. You may also go for latest version of Superuser from the Google Play Store.

If you’ve updated your Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 with the official Samsung-released firmware for Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread build XWKL1 and have lost your root access along the way, there’s a way for you to get it back.
Firmware XWKL1 for the Galaxy S2, said to be an incremental firmware update officially from Samsung, reportedly provides better battery life than earlier firmware updates.  For this reason, many folks have updated their Galaxy S2 to the said firmware and took an extra step: rooting the phone in order to further customize it.
In this guide, you will learn how to root your Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 after updating it to firmware XWKL1 of Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread.

Requirements

• Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 with Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread firmware XWKL1 installed
• Back up all your personal phone data (e.g., contacts, SMS, files, photos, Internet settings, MMS, etc.).  Do not use Samsung KIES in creating a back-up. Your rooted phone may be incompatible with Samsung KIES.
• Charge your battery to at least 60% power (full charge recommended) to keep your device running throughout the rooting procedure.
• Disable all system tools such as Samsung KIES, firewall programs, and antivirus software. These tools might affect or hinder the rooting process on your mobile device.
  

Warnings

These instructions are for the Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100.  Do not try these on another variant of the Galaxy S2 (such as the GT-I9100G).
Do not attempt to use this guide if your Galaxy S2 is not running Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread firmware version XWKL1.  Otherwise, you could brick your phone.
We will not be held responsible for any damage arising from the use of this rooting instructions. Root your device at your own risk.

Instructions

1. Get the XWKL1 root package from here.
2. Extract the RAR archive’s contents into a folder on your computer.  Use WinRAR or other RAR extraction software.
3. Go to the folder containing the extracted files and launch the Odin3_v1.0 program.
4. Switch off your Samsung Galaxy S2.
5. Press and hold the Volume Down key and Home button (middle key) simultaneously, while tapping the Power button to reboot your phone into Download Mode.
6. Once in download mode, connect your mobile device to the computer using USB cable.
7. Go back to Odin3 and click the “PDA” tab. From there, select the file “CF-Root-SGS2_XW_INU_KL1-v5.0-CWM5.tar” you got from the extracted files.
8. Under Option in Odin3, make sure only “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time” are checked.  Leave the other options unchecked.
9. Click the “Start” button in Odin3 to begin the rooting process. This will take a few minutes.
10. When your phone has been successfully rooted, your mobile device will automatically reboot.
11. Disconnect your phone from the computer once the homescreen appears on your phone.
12. Switch off your mobile phone.
13. Reboot your mobile device into Recovery Mode by pressing the Volume Up key, Home key (middle button), and Power button simultaneously.
14. While in Recovery mode, select “Wipe data/factory reset” and confirm the action on the next screen.
15. Select “Wipe Cache partition” and confirm the action on the next screen.
16. Go back to the main menu and select “reboot system now” to restart your phone.

You have successfully rooted your Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 running firmware XWKL1 of Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. You will also notice that ClockworkMod Recovery and Superuser app have been installed on your phone (a reliable indicator if you were successful in rooting your mobile device).

You might know that the Galaxy S come with removal of hardware buttons and for that it is known to be well designed phone. Recently we had discussed about updation of Galaxy S to ICS Firmware XXLPH and along with Galaxy S running on ICS, there are other ICS models which do not have onscreen buttons such as Galaxy Nexus. But, now it is made possible and all thanks to XDA developer member  paintball23456 who has solved the problem. Now experience the onscreen and warn the newbie will find it difficult to undergo new change, but anyways go through the procedure to taste a new thing on your Galaxy S.

Pre-Requisites

1. Samsung Galaxy S with ICS ROM
2. Android SDK
3. Install The Android USB drivers
4. Download Notepad++
5. Download 7-Zip
6. Install APK Tool

NOTE:
It is very important to download the APK Tool either 1.4.3 or 1.4.2. For that you need APKTool installer and APKTool itself. Extract both packages into the C:apktool folder and add this folder to the system path.
It’s very important to download Android SDK and APK to proceed further.

Steps to Decompile APK

Step 1: Create a folder i.e. “C:\android” (without inverted commas) in the root of your computer where all the proceedings will be accomplished.

Step 2: Tap on the Menu-> Settings->Application->Development->USB debugging. Make sure that USB debugging is checked.

Step 3: Via USB cable connect your device to your computer.

Step 4: Now open a command prompt in your computer and type following texts with giving an Enter after each line:

Cd c:\android
adb remount

Step 5: If all goes well then a message appears on screen i.e. remount succeeded.


Step 6: Again in the command prompt type:

adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk

Step 7: Open C:\android folder in Windows Explorer and check the existence of framework-res.apk.
And if it is visible then convey yourself that the command worked and then type:

apktool d framework-res.apk

Step 8: Wait for few seconds to complete the decompiling of file and once it is finished, the APK will be decompiled.

Steps to modify framework-res.apk

Step 1: Now open C:\android\framework-res\values\ folder.

Step 2: In same folder locate bools.xml and open that in Notepad++. After that find “config_showNavigationBar” and set its value to “true”.

Step 3: Close bools .xml and open the dimens.xml in Notepad++.

Step 4: search for “navigation_bar_height” and set its value to “34.0dip”.

Steps to Recompile APK

Step 1: Now open C:\apktool folder and inside that folder search aapt.exe and replace the file with this zip file

Step 2: Open command prompt in your computer and press enter for each line:

cd c:\android
apktool b framework-res

Step 3: After typing the APKTool will start recompiling the framework-res.apk and will last for 5 minutes.

Step 4: Just open C:\androidframework-resbuild folder and there are 3 files, leave AndroidManifest.xml. I mean don’t touch that folder.

Step 5: Launch the 7-Zip and open the framework-res.apk with this.

Step 6: Drag the files inside the C:\android\framework-res\build\ folder into the APK opened in 7-Zip and leave AndroidManifest.xml. Now close the 7-Zip.

Steps to re-establish the APK to the Phone

Step 1: Open a command prompt and type following texts with enters one by one:

cd c:\android
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/

Step 2: After the APK is pushed back again type the text in command prompt:

adb reboot

Step 3: Reboot your phone and you will be excited to see the 3 touch keys in bottom of the screen. And if it’s messy and cramped then, go to Google Play and download LCD Density Modder app. And change the LCD density to 228 dpi.

Step 4: Now reboot your Galaxy S.

Your Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 gets brand new Ice Cream Sandwich onscreen keys.
